News Writing

Journalism is where my career started. I first interned through the Oklahoma Press Association and then worked full-time at the Claremore Daily Progress. I was mainly a government and education reporter. After two years, I transitioned to a contract writer when I moved out of town and picked up additional contracts at the Edmond Daily Sun and NonDoc.

I published nearly 800 articles in about three years. It was a perfect experience in my early career because I had the opportunity to learn fast, find my writing style, and connect with my community at a deeper level.

Below you’ll find various published pieces you can click on to read more. I won an Associated Press Award for my series about trains. I focused on EMS delays caused by trains, the environmental and economic impact of stalled traffic, and the history of train problems in the town. The series resulted in a conversation between city leadership, BNSF, and Pacific Union in Washington D.C., leading to several improvements to reduce congestion.
